With a few changes that we recommend here this is an excellent approach to improving your life. Read more on the verdict here. They must be turned into stable and reliable habits, so they lose complexity and gain predictability and simplicity. This excellent piece of advice highlights an opportunity to make everything in the 75 hard challenge a positive new habit or routine to maintain and benefit from in the long term.

The 75 Hard Challenge is a 75 day challenge created by Andy Frisella and aimed at building mental toughness by completing a series of 5 tasks every day based on the rules of the 75 Hard Challenge. If a participant misses completing all of the tasks before they go to sleep, they must start back at day 1.

Click here to download the original 75 hard challenge rules in pdf here. Whether the 75 hard challenge is dangerous for you depends on how you approach the challenge. Whether the 75 hard challenge would be worthwhile for you depends on what you expect to get out of your 75 days of commitment. Are you doing the challenge just to say you did something tough and prove something to yourself?

Or, are you doing this challenge to create new habits, practices, and sustainable positive results. However, suppose your goal is to build lasting positive change such as getting and staying fit or losing some weight, keeping it off, or adding a few positive habits like reading more or drinking alcohol less often.

In that case, this challenge may need adjustments to align to the last positive change achieved with minimal risk along the way. Some of the 75 hard challenge rules are risky and require much effort that may not lead to sustainable habits or results that will stick after the challenge. However, suppose you approach this challenge as a catalyst to reprogram bad routines in daily life and build in new, healthy habits and improvements and we make a few changes to how we execute this challenge.

In that case , this challenge absolutely has the potential to be beneficial. Yet, at the same time, the feeling of accomplishment upon finishing is still extremely high. For all of its flaws, the 75 Hard Challenge has a lot of potential.

Anything that shocks us out of bad habits and adds good ones is a great start. But to make this challenge healthy and worthwhile, we still need to change a few things before jumping in. Stick to one workout on workout days for maximum benefits and minimal health risk. More importantly, it stimulates recovery or metabolizes stored energy breaking down fat. This recovery, growth, and improvement only happen when you rest. If you exercise for 75 days straight, you are blunting your gains.

At worst, you are weakening yourself and moving closer to potential injury day by day. Not being specific about an approach to nutrition and not choosing a science-backed option that creates habits we can maintain long term is a waste and, at worst detrimental to our health. Also, the eating plan should take into account the fitness approach. Focus on the process instead. Long-term change should embrace the process daily habits and ignore the result until the end. Instead, take a picture once at the beginning and once at the end, and use our checklist recommendation below.

Understand that the results will come. If you have done the work each day, you have results to be proud of. If you are interested in a better 75 day challenge for self-improvement, consider taking the 75 Strong challenge instead. Despite the important points for improvement listed above, the 75Hard challenge has much good already built-in, such as working out routinely, skipping alcohol, and building a habit of absorbing knowledge daily.

The best option here is to continue with these good points and build on them. Click here to download a PDF of the upgraded 75 challenge rules here. If you are alive and breathing right now, you have a lot to be thankful for. Suppose you are aware of all of those amazing things. We receive constant feedback usually negative and lists of things to improve daily.

However, how often do you get reminded of the positive things you do to maintain, reinforce, or double down on? Nobody is perfect, and no one in this life will be, so focusing on imperfections to correct to reach perfection is not only a dead-end effort but its draining. On the other hand, highlighting what is good, what is amazing, and what is done well to focus on and grow is a much more pleasant way to get closer to perfection. Imagine a garden, half crappy weeds and plants we hate, and half great plants with delicious fruits that we love.

Imagine if, instead of pulling the weeds to improve our garden which is miserable , we simply watered the fruiting plants much more enjoyable so much that they grew over and overshadowed the plants we disliked. Every day, highlight 20 things that are awesome about you — on paper and out loud — to give yourself the credit you deserve and to remind yourself to keep doing them. For example, if you want to walk the dog for 45 minutes, walk.

If you want to hike, go hike. Keep in mind high-intensity interval training will burn the most fat and have the best cardio benefits. However, simply building a long-term habit of moving daily is more valuable than pounds lost in the short term or doing a specific workout for 75 days. For any effective fitness regimen, you need rest. In an adequately intense fitness program, 2 days of exercise creates the right amount of stimuli tissue damage, hormone production to make good use of a day of recovery, helping us build strength and burn fat optimally.

Our goal is strength, stamina, and mobility gains, and habits that support that in the long run. This potential habit, training for 2 days, resting 1, and getting back to training, is a routine we can and should do into old age and indefinitely. For rest days, set a timer for 20 minutes and just stretch your trouble spots. Then check your box on the challenge checklist for that day.

If you want a little light instruction and a lot of interesting information on meditation, I recommend Dr. In this day and age, a new fad diet hits the internet every. We want to avoid this. What we want is to incorporate scientifically-backed healthy eating habits that 1 we are certain generally improve our health based on scientific research and years of testing 2 we can maintain and stay healthy well after the 75 days.

This is excellent advice for eating no matter who you are. Additionally, start your day with a protein, fat, and a veggie-heavy breakfast — not a sugar bomb coated with syrup, and a side of syrup, sugary frappe. Maintaining an extended period each day wherein our stomachs stay empty has the following benefits:. Best of all, intermittent fasting is a habit that we can apply to our lives indefinitely that will positively benefit us. As accepted as alcohol is in society, it has a huge list of side effects that make it questionable and definitely detrimental in excess.

Anything that literally causes brain damage is worth skipping. And a habit, once formed, is hard to break. If your work life and career were ideal, what would they look like? What one discipline could you develop that would help you to achieve your ideal? Ideal description: One discipline: If your family life were ideal, what would it look like, and what one discipline would help you the most to make it a reality?

Ideal description: One discipline: 6 If your health were perfect in every way, what one discipline would you have that makes it possible? Ideal description: One discipline: If your financial situation were ideal today, what one discipline would you have that would help you the most? What is holding you back? What one skill could you develop that would help you to realize more of your goals? If you could wave a magic wand and be completely disciplined in one area, which one discipline would have the greatest positive impact on your life?

Tracyism There is an interesting point about the price of success: It must always be paid in full, and in advance. Name three people, living or dead, whom you most admire, and describe one quality of each of them that you respect. Person Quality 1. Determine the most important virtue or quality in your life that you strive the most to practice or emulate.

What situations give you your greatest feelings of self-esteem and personal worth? If you were already an excellent person in every respect, how would you behave differently from today? Quality: What could you do? In what one area do you need to be more truthful and practice higher levels of integrity than today? Tracyism The greatest reward of success is not the money you make but the excellent person you become in the process of striving toward success and of exerting self-discipline every time it is required.

Never complain; never explain. Write that resolution here: Look into your past and select a person or incident that still makes you unhappy today. Instead of justifying your negative feelings, look for reasons why you were partially responsible for what happened. Person or incident: Why were you responsible? Relationship: 1. Select one person in your past with whom you are still angry, and resolve to forgive that person completely for what happened.

This act will liberate you emotionally. Write your resolution here: One person: Your resolution: 15 Accept complete responsibility for your financial situation and refuse to blame any financial problems on anyone else. Now, what steps are you going to take to resolve that situation?

Accept complete responsibility for your family situation, with each person, and take immediate action to improve your relationships wherever there may be problems. What actions will you take? What will you do or stop doing? Tracyism To become someone that you have never been before, you must do something that you have never done before.

Goal 1 Goal 2 Goal 3 19 Make a list of 10 goals that you want to achieve in the foreseeable future; write them down in the present tense, as if you have already achieved them. What one thing are you going to do every day? Write down that commitment here: Identify the most important skills you have that determine the quality and quantity of results you get at your work, and make a plan to get better in each one. Whatever your answer, set that skill as a goal, make a plan, and work on it every day.

Write those actions here: 1. Who is that person? Commit yourself today to lifelong learning, and never let a day go by without getting better in some area. List three subjects you could learn: 1. Tracyism All successful people, men and women, are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose. What are they? Determine what you would do in each of these situations if you were guaranteed complete success.

What actions would you take? What would you do differently if you were guaranteed success? In what three areas of life and work do you most experience the fears of failure and loss? What steps could you take immediately to confront and eliminate those fears?

How could you confront these fears and overcome them? What one great goal would you set for yourself if you knew you could not fail? Tracyism I've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often. Identify a goal in your life that you did not accomplish because you failed to persist through to completion.

What steps could you take today to succeed in that area? Identify one big goal that you achieved because you persisted and refused to give up, no matter how difficult it became. Decide on your major definite purpose in life, the one goal which, if you achieved it, would have the greatest positive impact on your life.

Repeat this process over and over until persistence becomes a habit. Tracyism Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new. Set a new work schedule for yourself and begin to start earlier, work harder, and stay later until it becomes a habit.

List your three top priorities: 1. Write them here: 1. Decide today that, from now on, you are going to work all the time you work, and that you will soon develop the reputation for being the hardest-working person in your company. List three ways you can use your time better: 1.

Write it here: Identify the most important people in your business world and determine how you will have to behave toward them to get them to perform at their best. Who are they? How do you remain calm in a crisis? Clarify the three most important values and principles you believe in and stand for, and share them with the people around you.

How can you treat people really well? Tracyism Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation. Imagine you were starting your business over again today.

Are there any products or services that you would not bring to the current market? How could you sell more of them? Project forward one, two, and five years in your business. What are the trends? What will your customers be buying in the future? How will they be buying these things? List three ways that you could attract more and better-qualified leads from your marketing and advertising activities.

Tracyism The more you seek security, the less of it you have. But the more you seek opportunity, the more likely it is that you will achieve the security that you desire. Write down that affirmation here: Tracyism Your greatest asset is your earning ability. Your greatest resource is your time. Write that amount here: Determine how many individual sales you will have to make, based on your average size of sale and amount of commission earned.

Write that number here: Determine how many prospects you will have to call on, based on your current experience, to make this number of sales. Write that number here: Dedicate yourself to continuous improvement in sales by reading each day, listening to audios in your car, and attending sales seminars. What will you start with? Spend every minute of every sales day getting face to face with people who can and will buy from you in the near future.

What can you do to get ready? Add up all your assets, subtract all your debts and liabilities, and calculate the exact number. What bank will you use?

Plain old dedication, determination and hard work! In April '92 he did what he thought was his last professional magazine cover, having gone into retirement shortly afterwards Finding his own nutrician company, Gaspari, he didn't stay idol; building a huge customer base and collection of supplements for the health minded In October '11, he was invited to be on the cover of another magazine, this time one in which the still-fit Rich could show his transformation into a physique near to how he was some 20 years previous The time frame?

This is the workout system that Rich drew up to be able to be on the cover Each day is either a workout for either regular person or the hard gainer or the rest period,. Each day gives you dietary advice. Each day gives you a little mantra In and of itself, that's a fascinating read; his childhood, his initial training, the breaks that he got, training - and living - with Lee Haney, his idea of training , and the highs, and lows, of running his own company He also gives a little run-through of of the essential supplements for the individual - vitamins, minerals, macronutrients, amino acids etc.

The workouts? Rich is a big fan of supersets. Pretty much! Easier said than done. Without perfect form you're not isolating the proper muscles. It's a great little workout. The workouts take you through a variety of angles and equipment requirements, but most things you can replicate at home For the latter, I have one of those multi-band collections - series of 5 bands of varying strengths - and just attach all the bands to the handles for the most resistance I can get The workouts are tough!

There's some need of gym-based equipment but, with a little bit of 'out of the box' thinking you can get around it. For leg workouts I believe I nearly fainted each and every time I did them Oh, and Rich believes in a fair amount of cardio too. In the main, my body stats stayed the same; tape measurements of bi's, shoulders, chest, waist, calves, hips and neck were all the same. Now, I dropped between lbs in weight AND my body fat dropped.

And lose weight? I think that's a good result Report abuse. If you are a fan of Gaspari, lift weights, or generally looking to be inspired then this book is for you. Like the way it has been broken down into easily maneagable chapters each with a story from his life in order to illustrate to the reader that as he has overcome then so can we great for dipping into There are two routines to follow dependant on your goals, a hard gainer for those who are new to weights or struggling to gain size, and a muscle builder for the more experienced do the hard gainer first then the muscle builder and you get days for the price of 51!

The only gripe is that there are no illustrations or descriptions of how to perform each exercise but then they can be resrarched on the net for those unfamiliar , plus he tends to overemphasize his own products in the diet sections which are extremely expensive. These minor irritants aside however this is a book to have on your shelf, in your gym bag, etc I liked the information on nutrition and suggested eating regime.

The book was full of personal information about the author and his journey into Bodybuilding. This made it a more personal read, not just full of information. I enjoyed the book and would happily recommend it to anybody interested in following a healthy lifestyle.

Also includes lots of life stories delivered in Gaspari's typical enthusiastic manner. Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations. Back to top. What good does it do you to build a huge muscular, impressive body if you are small and underdeveloped on the inside?
